We decided to spend a laid back day in Scottsdale rather than trekking into Phoenix for the day as it was incredibly hot again and there was nothing specific we wanted to go and see in Phoenix. Our attitudes have definitely shifted from the start of the trip where we would have made a concerted effort to go and see everything there is to see in the area, but the heat combined with a certain amount of travel weariness means we are cutting ourselves some slack! Around 11 we decided to go for a walk around the town and have a look around. We took the car up some of the way and parked in the Parking Corral before walking further, starting in Old Town and walking through the shopping district where we bought a few things. The town wasn’t that interesting and fairly quiet, but I can see how it would be very easy to live there – with the amount of bars and restaurants around, as well as the shopping it would be easy to stay there! We were sweating quite a bit after all the walking and went into Bootleggers Smokehouse for a freezing beer. The beer really hit the spot but we had the car so went back to the hotel and spent the rest of the afternoon lounging about the pool, reading and dipping into the pool every now and again to stay cool. We ventured out again at about 5:30-ish and went to Bootleggers for dinner. I had the St Louis Ribs and Brian the Pulled Pork, both of which were very good and I ended up taking half my food home again! We slowly walked back to the hotel after eating and stopped at RnR, and finally at Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles for a final drink. I’ve been fascinated with LoLos but the food that came out of the kitchen didn’t look that great – though I may still try and eat at one of them. We had another chilled and relaxed day and I wished we could have stayed longer as it was such a nice and comfortable room with everything you need for a holiday.
