Day 81 – Carlsbad to Abilene

As I was really not feeling great (self-inflicted, I know), we packed up the car and I pretty much put my head down and kept my eyes shut for most of the trip to Abilene (250 miles). Again the landscape we drove through was a lot greener than I ever expected it to be in these parts; they must have had fairly recent rain as it reminded me of the Karoo when it’s had rain and everything is green and lush looking. The main difference with the Karoo of course being the donkeys EVERYWHERE pumping oil….miles and miles of it. Other than that I can’t tell you much of the trip though by the time we got to Abilene I was hungry so clearly over my malaise! Abilene was another stopover on our way to Dallas so we didn’t do much exploring – in fact I would go as far as to say we did no exploring at all! We are now in Texas where there’s even more pickups and we keep getting called y’all….I thought this was something that only happened on television!
We lost two hours in the last few days and are now back on Central time, which makes me feel a little bit closer to home! Our hotel for the night was Country Heart Inn & Suites Abilene and it was pretty good actually, with a very good breakfast the next morning! We went to a Logan’s Roadhouse for something to eat and I got the biggest lemonade I’ve ever seen with my dinner – 800ml!!! I got some buttermilk chicken with mash and gravy and Brian had steak with LOTS of onion. Both meals were pretty good and pretty cheap on the whole. I was a bit knackered so we went back to the hotel for an early night – and I have NO pictures to share y’all!
