We left Umhlanga just before 10am and drove along the coast, taking pictures at various beach locations on the way. There were some lovely beaches to look at and we saw surfers at a few places, though I never actually saw them surf, just lay about on their boards! Continue reading

As we had quite a tight schedule, we got up early and got ready for breakfast at 7:30. We were planning on doing the Main Cave walk to go and look at some rock paintings, and the first guided tour started at 9:00.
Our second day in the Drakensberge dawned bright and sunny and I was feeling so invigorated by the fresh mountain air that I went for a jog. Continue reading
I was up early and got some nice shots of the sun rising over the sea from our balcony, while Brian tried to pretend I wasn’t clattering about annoying him while he still tried to sleep.
We got up reasonably early and took a walk down to the beach for the customary photos before setting off about 10.00 for the drive to Port St Johns. Although cloudy, the weather wasn’t too bad and the drive there went through some pretty good scenery especially the closer we got to our destination. It took a bit longer to get there than it should do due to major road works in a few places but we were in no real hurry so was ok.
Port St John’s is at the end of a river estuary which flows into the Indian Ocean with some lovely views though not much of an accessible beach. The town is not great so pretty much like most of them in this section of the trip but as ever, has a lot of B&Bs / guest houses catering for us travellers. Our B&B wasn’t great…

We left Coffee Bay after another good breakfast of grapefruit, eggs and toast for me, and just toast for Brian. Before we set off we went for a quick walk on the beach even though it was still fairly cloudy and miserable. Continue reading
After breakfast at Schafli Manor we packed up our carful of cr*p and set off, stopping for more pictures of the beach on the way. We are getting quite good again at packing up every day, though it is never particularly enjoyable!
