Due to some shockingly bad planning we spent the entire day traveling – 6am flight from Adelaide to Melbourne and then from Melbourne to Auckland, with a few hours spent at Melbourne Airport. By the time we picked up the car and checked into our accommodation for the night (Waldorf Bankside Apartments) it was 8pm and we had very little time to explore Auckland. At least we got a great car after a bit of a kerfuffle at the car rental place – a brand new Audi Q7 – and at the cheapest rate for the whole trip!
Though it was already almost dark we ventured out after checking in and headed out for a beer and burger at Vultures’ Lane, which is a really nice bar, before heading across the street to Cassette Nine, which is a very cool upstairs bar with a funky interior, balcony seating and some very nice cocktails! Fortunately the bars, both in trendy Vulcan Lane, were close to our hotel and after enjoying a few drinks we walked up the hill back to our apartment – only to find that somehow the lid came off the jar of coffee we’d brought from Oz and my entire suitcase was full of coffee granules! Not much fun at all!
