The trip from Pittsburgh to Columbus was another day of green, rolling hills and quite beautiful to look at. We stopped at a Culver’s for a Butterburger for Brian and Cheese Curds for me – you can’t go wrong with deep fried cheese curds!
Our motel in Columbus was in the German Village and unfortunately a bit of a dump, but we weren’t in Columbus to spend time sitting in a motel room, so we weren’t too bothered. Columbus turned out to be a beautiful city with a lots of museums and green spaces, including lovely riverside parks – and a LOT of flowers everywhere, which were really impressive for a city’s downtown area!
We were also lucky enough to be in Columbus for Pride Weekend which meant that there were food and drink stalls along the river parks and lots of people were out and about and the vibe was great. There were a couple of music stages, and we had a few beers while walking around and enjoying the sunshine and great event.
As we were staying in the German Village, we simply had to go to Schmidt’s, which is very famous for their German food. I had a Sausage Sampler, which was just OK (I’ve had better German sausages in South Africa!) and we had a few beers before heading back to our ant-infested motel room. Columbus was another pleasant surprise and definitely worth visiting.
